Mission 6: [Accidental Video]

[The PCD has just been dropped somewhere, but it's somewhere with a pretty good view of the room. Sephiroth doesn't notice the blinking light as he sits in a chair in the Hall of Fire. He is, naturally, back in his usual outfit. His expression is one of deep thought, or possibly brooding, distant and inward-focused. Finally, he stands, pacing around the hall a bit before approaching the fireplace.]

Mother...

[He rests one hand on the fireplace mantle, the other lifting to press against the side of his head in a way that could indicate pain or disorientation. Finally, the feed times out.]

[Once he's made sure no one is seeing this but him and Zack, Sephiroth looks more tired and pained than anything, even if the anger is still there behind it.]

Zack, as far as I've been able to tell, you don't want to see me, period. Keeping secrets does not require a communications blackout. Strife's right about one thing, at least. You're not the same person I knew.

It's not that I don't wanna see you. Before...things went wrong, we were friends, if I can make that assumption. But you and Cloud are right. Bad things happened to me. I've been through Hell. I don't always trust as easily as I did.

I'm not a kid anymore, Sephiroth.

[He goes quiet again, debating how much he should say next.]

...Vincent already told me the truth. I just...wanna know if you know. Because you deserve to.

You've given no indications of that. [Frowny Sephiroth is frowny.] The only friend I had left.

[Gaia, Zack, grow some logical thought, would you?] Then the fact that I told you to ask Vincent should tell you something. If you absolutely must hear it from me in order to grant your peace of mind, my mother's name was Lucrecia. [And there's another small, barely perceptible twitch of pain.]

[Sephiroth gets another silence out of Zack. But he does manage to speak up again.]

Because of Genesis. And Angeal.

[And speaking of his old mentor again, his own friend, causes Zack frown as well, but more out of sadness than frustration. He hates that he had to kill Angeal, hates that he wears the reminder on his face every day.

But hearing Sephiroth say that name instead of the name he feared hearing makes him sigh in relief.]

[Sephiroth just nods; it's really so self-evident that it barely even needs THAT much acknowledgement.]

I would if you would tell me. [He shakes his head a little.] I won't press you for your secrets, however.

[He could say it. He probably should say it. But there's still the hesitation Zack feels. What if he takes it the wrong way?

No. No, Sephiroth knows who his real mother is. Hearing the idea that Jenova could even be imagined as his mother should be ridiculous, right?

[Sorry, Zack, Sephiroth hasn't even gotten to the reactor yet so he doesn't get why this is a big deal. He knows there's something else in his head but not that it's Jenova. You get a barely readable quizzical look.]

Yes. Hojo told me that my mother's name was Jenova and that she died when I was born. Until coming here, I had no evidence to the contrary.
