It's simple enough to explain. Strife was already here when I arrived. I knew nothing of what I would become. Even by the time he left, I knew very little.
I would imagine any sane and essentially blameless man would take poorly to being treated as a monstrous, genocidal madman. I suppose not killing me on sight was his idea of a concession to the fact that I had done nothing in the time I came from.
