[Vincent barely has time to put his left hand, the claw-covered one, in front of his chest to block the strike, and even then, the force behind the blow is enough to start sending him flying backwards.

Masamune is too long for him to fight with Cerberus. His only solution to use the gun is to let Chaos take over and have it turn into Death Penalty to increase his accuracy to a point where bullets cannot be avoided. Not to mention, he's pretty sure Sephiroth doesn't know about Chaos, so that would give him so advantage to work on.
But a trump card isn't one if you use it right in the beginning, and it would probably be best to wear Jenova down some before getting to that.
